A local senator has called for stronger industry support and increased CAP funding for farmers.
Longford-Westmeath Senator Paul Daly welcomed the securing of the nitrates derogation, saying it was essential for farmers and rural jobs.
He said environmental controls were necessary to retain EU approval and protect the dairy industry.
