High levels of overcrowding recorded at two local hospitals

Two local hospitals are experiencing high levels of overcrowding this afternoon.

Over 40 people are waiting on a trolley or chair at Sligo University Hospital, the highest in the region.

The Emergency Department at Portiuncula Hospital is also busy with 21 patients without a bed, 16 of which are on wards.

Elsewhere, 38 people are on trolleys or chairs at University Hospital Galway with Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar recording just one person waiting.
