County planners have given the green light to the construction of a solar farm in Mullingar.
The plan comprises of the development of 20,000 photovoltaic panels on ground mounted frames.
The project would cover a total site area of 9.3 hectares at Newdown, The Downs, in Mullingar.
The application also includes the erection of 5 single-storey inverter and transformer stations, security fencing and CCTV.
The plan will also see the development of an access road from the existing car park, as well as all associated ancillary works.
Westmeath county planners have granted the submitted application with 13 conditions attached.
