The green light has been given for anti-crime taskforces to be established in Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon.
Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan has signed regulations that will allow community safety partnerships to be set up around the country.
They'll replace the old joint policing committees and will meet six times a year.
Each safety partnership will include 30 members - including gardai, local residents, businesses and state agencies.
