Government under fire over shortage of ministers from west

An Opposition TD is strongly criticising the shortage of cabinet ministers from the west of Ireland.

Mayo TD Dara Calleary is the only senior minister from Connacht – with the 14 others from elsewhere in the country.

The cabinet was unveiled by Taoiseach Micheál Martin yesterday evening, after the government was officially formed.

Aontu leader Peadar Toibin says the ministers aren’t well spread out around the country.

Longford-Westmeath TD Peter Burke is the only Shannonside minister.

Tanaiste Simon Harris says he will have several priorities as Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Minister.
