GoSafe vans could be used to detect dangerous driver behaviour

Sinn Féin's spokesperson on Transport Martin Kenny has called on the Justice Minister to explain why this isn't already the case.

A local TD says GoSafe vans should be used to detect dangerous driver behaviour as well as speeding. Sinn Féin's spokesperson on Transport Martin Kenny has also called on the Justice Minister to explain why this isn't already the case.

Deputy Kenny accused Helen McEntee's Department of failing to provide legal standing for vans to be used to detect mobile phone use and enforce the wearing of seatbelts. He claims the Assistant Garda Commissioner informed the Transport committee this week that the vans currently have that capability. Speaking to Shannonside News, he said it was time to extend the vans' role in road safety enforcement:
