Glowing tributes have been paid to a Leitrim doctor who died while holidaying in France, at his funeral Mass today.
It took place in Annaduff this morning.
Dr Anthony Beirne was born in London but he and his family moved back to Derrywillow in Annaduff when he was eight, in 1973.
He went to Annaduff National School and St Mel's College in Longford.
He then went to study in University College Cork, and firstly became a junior doctor and then a consultant psychiatrist.
He lived in St Luke's in Cork and is survived by his wife, June, and their 16-year-old son, Francis.
Anthony died while holidaying in France on Sunday, June 22nd, at the age of 60.
His funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr Frank Garvey in St Mary's Church in Annaduff this morning.
He was remembered as a kind doctor, a loving family man, and for his love of music - with several gifts brought to the altar to symbolise his passions in life.
Fr Garvey expressed sincere condolences to his parents, Billy and Peggy - saying to lose a child is very sad.
A private cremation is taking place for Anthony.
