Councillor Garry Murtagh has been elected as cathaoirleach of Longford County Council.
The appointment took place this afternoon at the council's AGM meeting.
Fine Gael's Garry Murtagh got the majority of votes to become the county's new first citizen.
While fellow colleague Niall Gannon was appointed Leas Cathaoirleach.
The cathaoirleach's role includes an allowance of €20,000 for the year and €4,000 for the Leas Cathaoirleach.
