Road users across the Shannonside region are being urged to drive safe over the bank holiday weekend.
An Garda Síochána and the Road Safety Authority are rolling out a five-day road safety campaign for the next five days.
A higher volume of traffic than usual is expected on roads in Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon over the weekend.
The road safety campaign got underway at 7am this morning and will run until 7am on Tuesday, April 7th.
Gardaí said they will be placing a particular emphasis on detecting those driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs this weekend.
Extra caution is being urged around vulnerable road users, in particular pedestrians.
They said as the evenings become brighter and the weather improves, pedestrians and cyclists are taking advantage of our road network.
