In a story some listeners may find distressing, the clinical director of the Galway Rape Crisis Centre has welcomed the sentence handed down to a Westmeath man for raping a woman with a bottle. Jonathan Moran, from Tower View in Mullingar, was jailed for eight years yesterday and his victim, Bláthnaid Raleigh, waived her anonymity so he could be named.
Moran denied what he had done but was found guilty. Deirdre Ronan who is the clinical director of the Galway Rape Crisis Centre said unfortunately the level of violence seen in this case isn't unusual:
