Funeral of Garda killed in line of duty taking place this afternoon
The funeral of Garda Kevin Flatley is taking place in Dublin this afternoon.

49-year-old Garda Kevin Flatley was pronounced dead at the scene when he was knocked down by a motorbike last Sunday afternoon.

The President and Garda Commissioner will be among those paying their respects today to Garda Kevin Flatley. The father of two - who was based at Dublin Castle- was carrying out a routine speed check at the time. His wife and daughters will be the chief mourners at his funeral service at St. Peter and Paul's church in Balbriggan this afternoon.

President Michael D. Higgins , the Taoiseach, Tánaiste, Justice Minister and Garda Commissioner will also be in attendance. The PSNI is also sending a representative. Traffic restrictions will be in place in Balbriggan - with the main street closed from midday. Garda Kevin Flatley's funeral service will be broadcast live on big screens outside the church, and also on the Garda Facebook page. That's followed by a private burial in his hometown of Newcastle in Dublin.
