The funeral of former cabinet minister Paddy Cooney, from Griffith Street, Athlone, is taking place on Thursday.
The Longford-Westmeath politician served as minister in the cabinets of Liam Cosgrave and Garrett Fitzgerald.
He also was an MEP and senator for Fine Gael.

He died in the Heritage Clinic in Dublin yesterday after a short illness.
In accordance with his wishes, his body has been donated to medical science.
An opportunity to express condolences to his family will be available at Flynn's Funeral Home, The Strand, Athlone, on Wednesday, from 4pm to 7pm.

His funeral mass will be celebrated at St Mary’s Church, Athlone, on Thursday, at 10:30am.
