Calls have been made for Longford County Council to seek funding for a Museum of Music Ireland in the former Providers building on Lower Main Street.
The project could be supported by a new €7.5 million Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund, which opens for applications this week.
The museum would be an immersive heritage attraction celebrating Longford's strong links to Irish country music.

A similar proposal was previously submitted to Fáilte Ireland in 2022 but did not secure funding.
Senator Joe Flaherty believes the project could complement the planned redevelopment of Connolly Barracks and help revitalise the Lower Main Street area:
