A Ballagahderreen councillor and former fire officer has welcomed funding for the town's fire station. It was confirmed earlier today that Ballaghaderreen Fire Station would receive €500,000 for refurbishment and upgrade works. It's part of the €328.5 million National Fire Services Capital Programme announced by Minister James Browne.
There's also €3million in funding for a new station in Ballymahon and €2 million for upgrade works in Carrick-on-Shannon. Cllr Micheál Frain, who retired from the fire service in February after 26 years, says the funding is badly needed:
