A total of €6 million has been allocated to the upgrade of the N4 between Longford and Mullingar.
The money has been assigned today by Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
It is expected the upgrade will cost between €500 million and €1 billion and will now move through the statutory and appraisal stages, with construction commencing by 2030.
