Former solider to be sentenced for killing of Aidan McAnespie

The case was brought to a conclusion last year after decades of campaigning by the family

A 53-year-old man found guilty of killing a man at an army checkpoint in Northern Ireland 35 years ago will be sentenced today.

David Holden was found guilty of the manslaughter of Aidan McAnespie in February 1988.

Mr. McAnespie was killed in Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone, moments after walking through a border security checkpoint.

He was on his way to a Gaelic football match.

Deputy director of Amnesty International UK, Grainne Teggart, says there are other families waiting for truth and justice, and while the McAnespie family have found some kind of justice, this can't be allowed to be the last one.
