Former local TD pays tribute to Midlands hotelier Christy Maye

The 83-year-old was credited for his role in founding the Tullamore Show and for bringing Disc A Go Go, Ireland’s first disco, to Mullingar in the 1960s.

Former TD Donie Cassidy has paid tribute to well-known Midlands hotelier and businessman Christy Maye, who passed away on Saturday following a short illness.

The 83-year-old was credited with helping to found the Tullamore Show.

He also brought Disc A Go Go, Ireland’s first disco, which began in Mullingar and spread nationwide, in the 1960s.

He owned the Greville Arms in Mullingar and the Bridge House Hotel in Tullamore.

Cassidy described Maye as a generous man who left a lasting mark on the region.

Christy's funeral mass will take place on Tuesday at 12 noon in the Church of the Immaculate Conception Forgney, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
