Former Lanesboro convent will now not be used for refugee accommodation

The news was confirmed at a Longford County Council meeting this evening.

A former convent in Lanesboro will now no longer be used for refugee accommodation. Following a fire at the premises last night, the provider is no longer offering the property for housing refugees from Ukraine. The news was confirmed in a Longford County Council meeting this evening.

Meanwhile, A Lanesboro businessman said local concerns had been ignored regarding the housing of refugees in the area. Shopkeeper and local community activist, Joe O'Brien, says the building had been the source of much speculation in recent weeks.
