A former Mayor of Boyle has welcomed plans to turn the town's historic post office into a hostel. Proposals for the redevelopment have been lodged with Roscommon County Council by Aaron Sharkey. It's listed as a protected structure and had served as the town's post office for over 100 years.
But An Post sold the building last year and the post office moved to the nearby SuperValu last month. Mr Sharkey is planning on turning it into a hostel, with eight bedrooms, a takeaway coffee facility and other works. Former mayor Jane Suffin says more short-term accommodation is needed in Boyle:
