A former Boyle town councillor is backing a plan to re-establish town councils across the country. There were 80 of them around the country, including in Athlone and Longford, but they were abolished in 2014. Taoiseach Micheál Martin has told the Irish Examiner he wants to re-establish town councils in the next three years. Former mayor of Boyle Town Council, Jane Suffin, is welcoming the news:
