The Minister for Forestry was criticised by local councillors in Ballinamore this week. It followed comments made by Michael Healy Rae concerning the planting of Christmas trees underneath powerlines. Fallen trees left thousands in the county without power following Storm Éowyn in January of this year. Cllr Paddy O’Rourke said the Minister’s comments would anger many people living in the county. He said the planting of trees under powerlines would lead to future problems:
