Fine Gael will hold its selection convention to fill Senator Gareth Scahill's seat on Roscommon County Council next month.
The convention will take place at Tully's Hotel at 7.30 pm on Thursday, April 14th at Tully's Hotel, Castlerea.
There are a number of candidates believed to be interested in filling Gareth Scahill's seat on Roscommon County Council.
The seat was left vacant following the Castlerea man's elevation to the Seanad last month by Tánaiste Simon Harris.
Scahill was only elected to Roscommon County Council for the first time in June of last year.
It's understood that there are five candidates currently in the mix to replace him.
They are former Senator Maura Hopkins, former Roscommon Mayor Micheal McGreal, Gerry Coffey, Robbie McConn, and Castleplunkett woman Ruth Connolly-Conboy.
Auctioneer Gerry Coffey and former Garda Robbie McConn ran unsuccessfully in 2019 and 2024 local elections respectively.
Nominations close at 9pm on Sunday, March 30th.
One of the people linked to the vacant seat is former councillor and mayor Michael McGreal.
Reporter Darragh O'Connor spoke to Michael earlier today about his interest in going forward to contest the convention:
