A local TD has accused the EU of stripping Ireland of its power in a strongly worded Dáil speech.
Roscommon-Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice said recent trade agreements, including Mercosur, are unfair and driven by larger EU states such as Germany.
Fitzmaurice argued that directives like the habitats directive have "tied the country in knots" and undermined national control.
