First-time buyers face 216-year wait for new home in Ballymahon - study

The wait would be 137 years in Longford town, 116 years in Roscommon town, and 109 years in Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim.

It would take nearly 216 years for a first-time buyer in Ballymahon, Co Longford, to get a new home in the area.

That's based on current building rates, according to a study, published in The Irish Times, by Rob Cass, director of Irish Sustainable Homes.

It considers newly built homes and census population data.

The wait would be 137 years in Longford town, 116 years in Roscommon town, and 109 years in Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim.

In the Athlone area of south Roscommon, though, the wait would be less than 18 years.

Councillor for the Ballymahon Municipal District, Mark Casey, says the finding for his area is not surprising:
