The final list of candidates in the battle to replace Gareth Scahill on Roscommon County Council, will be known tonight.
They will then contest a Fine Gael selection convention next month.
Castlerea man Gareth Scahill was elected as a councillor in the Roscommon Local Electoral Area last June.
But his time on the council was short-lived as he was appointed to the Seanad by the Taoiseach in February.
His council seat has been vacant for the past six weeks or so.
Fine Gael is holding a selection convention in Tully's Hotel in Castlerea on April 14th, when local party members will choose his replacement.
The deadline for nominations to be lodged is 9 o'clock tonight.
Four candidates have been nominated so far - Roscommon town's Robbie McConn, Castleplunkett's Ruth Connolly-Conboy, Ballintubber's Maria McCahill and Ballinlough's Michael McGreal.
We'll know if anyone else will contest the convention later tonight.
