The Abbeycartron Soccer pitches host hundreds of kids each weekend for various leagues and competitions.
The pitch has limited parking resulting in dozens of cars parking in local estates and on road sides.
With the planned expansion of the Mall into neighbouring land, a local councillor is calling for stakeholders to look at the possibility of linking the sites.
At a recent meeting of Longford County Council, the executive confirmed that a deal had been reached to purchase the land behind the leisure centre.
The site, known as Dempsey's Land, is a 14 acre site between the Mall and the pitches.
7 acres of that site will now be used to create an expansion of the park.
