If passed, the deal will allow 99,000 tonnes carcass weight of beef from South America enter the EU at a much reduced tariff rate of 7.5 per cent.

The EU will vote in the new year whether or not to approve the Mercusor trade agreement.

If passed, the deal will allow 99,000 tonnes carcass weight of beef from South America enter the EU at a much reduced tariff rate of 7.5 per cent.

The quantity of beef under this quota will be phased in over a five-year period.

Sinn Féin's agriculture spokesperson, Martin Kenny, a Sligo-Leitrim TD disagrees with the proposals.
