East Galway family seeks funding to purchase rented home

The Go Fund Me page is named ' trying to buy a house for my parents'.

An East Galway family, whose rented house is being sold, is hoping to raise 170,000 euro to buy it.

David and Sharon Rutland's Mountbellew home went up for sale earlier this month despite having rented it for 10 years.

The family say the landlord has been very understanding and helpful but is keen to sell the property.

Sharon and her son David set up the Go Fund Me page in an effort to raise money and to allow them to stay in the home they've known for the past decade.

Sharon says they are struggling to find alternative accommodation that will fit the needs for son David's Autism and her husband John's Stage 3 cancer treatment:

'I've been to two or three estate agents this week and I've been told the same story even to go on the council housing list but there is nothing to be available.

Not even a house to rent.

There's nothing because with the current housing crisis situation, everyone is staying put and landlords are selling up.'
