Over €10 million is set to be spent on a flood-relief scheme for Leitrim village over the next six years.
The money is earmarked in Leitrim County Council’s new capital programme.
The council and the Office of Public Works are progressing this flood-relief scheme for Leitrim village.
Consulting engineers Ryan Hanley were appointed as engineering and environmental consultants for the scheme.
The village has a history of flooding from the River Shannon and Shannon Erne Canal, especially in 2009 and 2015.
The Shannon CFRAM study concluded a flood-relief scheme would be viable and effective for the community.
In its new capital programme for 2026 to 2031, the council says over 10 million euro will be spent on the scheme.
A total of €20,000 will be spent next year, with €5 million in 2027 and another €5 million between 2029 and 2031.
