Councillor Donal Kilduff has been selected as the new Cathaoirleach of the Athlone Municipal district in Roscommon.
The Independent Councillor has his name drawn out of a hat after a deadlock in the voting at the M.D's's AGM on Monday afternoon saw him tied with Fine Gael's John Naughten on three votes each for the role.
The Kilrtoom native succeeded his father Paddy on the County Council last year in the May's local elections and his Leas Cathaoirleach for the next 12 months will be Athleague native Ivan Connaughton.
