Domnick Connolly to become Roscommon cathaoirleach next month

Independent Laurence Fallon is due to become the leas-cathaoirleach.

Fine Gael councillor Domnick Connolly is set to become the cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council next month.

Independent Laurence Fallon is due to become the leas-cathaoirleach.

The ruling alliance of Roscommon County Council is made up of councillors from Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and Independents Tom Crosby, Emer Kelly and Laurence Fallon.

This group is sharing the cathaoirleach and leas-cathaoirleach positions between them over the five-year term.

The current cathaoirleach is Liam Callaghan, from Fine Gael, and the leas-cathaoirleach is John Keogh, from Fianna Fáil.

Councillor Callaghan's last full meeting as cathaoirleach will take place on May 25th.

An AGM will then be held in June, when his Fine Gael colleague Domnick Connolly will replace him.

Independent councillor Laurence Fallon is due to become the leas-cathaoirleach.

The cathaoirleach gets an allowance of €20,000 for his one-year term and the leas-cathaoirleach gets €4,000.
