Digital hubs must play central part in community says local CEO

The comment's come following a new survey on remote working.

Digital hubs across the country need to be made a central part of whatever community they are in.

That's according to the interim CEO of the Western Development Commission Alan Mulrooney.

Mr Mulrooney was commenting on a survey commissioned by Leitrim County Council which has shown over a fifth of people working remotely around the country.

Speaking on the Let's Talk show this afternoon, he says the creation of digital hubs are an intrinsic part of the whole "remote working "revolution, but they must be properly integrated with communities.

''We're aiming towards a target of 400 hubs across the country, we have 319 or there abouts as of today on the platform itself, the occupation rates of hubs is actually very high at the moment, it varies from county to county. What's really important and the challenge we have at the moment is getting that message across that these aren't just buildings they also need become pinnacle parts and central parts of each town centre so you're bringing in much more than just a tech community, you're bringing in different groups in the morning and evening, you're brining in TY students and you're making sure you're educating people that this is a new way of working.''
