A Leitrim County Councillor has branded the decision by the Department of Integration not to house asylum seekers in a well know Leitrim hotel as 'common sense'.
It's was confirmed this morning that the department is no longer considering accommodating international-protection applicants in the Leitrim Marina Hotel in Leitrim Village.
The property had been offered to the Department for housing refugees and had previously been used as accommodation for Ukrainian.
The move triggered a major backlash from locals who highlighted their concerns over the impact the decision could have on the village.
Minister Marian Harkin confirmed this morning that the Department of Integration will not be using the hotel as an IPAS centre.
