Decrease in local sales of heavy and light goods vehicles in last 12 months

New figures from the CSO show a drop in the registration of new and second hand vehicles across the Shannonside area.

Sales of heavy and light goods vehicles have fallen over the last year in the Shannonside region. New figures from the CSO show a drop in the registration of new and second hand vehicles across the three counties. The figures released by the Central Statistics Office show that 587 heavy and light goods vehicles were registered across the region in the first five months of this year. That's compared to 629 in the same period last year, a difference of 42 vehicles.

Roscommon saw the largest amounts of registrations in both periods, with 260 registrations between January and May this year. That's compared to 301 in the same period in 2024. In Longford, levels of new registrations fell from 196 to 182 year on year, a difference of 14 goods vehicles. Leitrim saw the region's only increase in new registrations, with 145 new trucks and vans registered in the first five months of the year compared with 132 in 2024. Nationally, over 20,500 light and heavy goods vehicles have been registered so far this year.
