Noel Whelan applied to An Bord Pleanala for an exemption to house those seeking international protection in April.

A decision on whether to grant an exemption for a Roscommon property to house asylum seekers is due in August.

That's according to a local TD, who says the development of refugee accommodation is still some way off.

Sinn Féin's Claire Kerrane sought an update from the Department of Integration on plans for Academy House on Goff Street.

Noel Whelan applied to An Bord Pleanala for an exemption to house those seeking international protection in April.

In response to Deputy Kerrane, the department said the applicant would have to be granted the exemption before being considered.

She says even with the exemption, a range of paperwork - including a fire cert - would have to be produced:
