A motorist has been detected travelling at almost twice the legal speed limit during a routine operation by the Sligo- Leitrim Roads Policing Unit.
Gardaí confirmed that the vehicle was recorded travelling at 113km/h in a 50km/h zone, a significant breach of road traffic regulations.
During the same incident, the driver also attempted to overtake another vehicle at a junction, an action Gardaí described as dangerous and irresponsible.
As a result, fixed charge penalty notices were issued for both speeding and driving without due care and attention.
The offences carry a combined penalty of three penalty points and €240 in fines.
Gardaí have reiterated their ongoing concern about excessive speed on Irish roads and the serious risks it poses to all road users.
