Dáil protest over forestry deal takes place today

A number of organisations are involved.

A Dail protest takes place today calling for an investment plan for Irish forests to be abandoned.

The arrangement between Coillte and Gresham House, a UK investment firm, will could see thousands of acres of new forestry planted, however farmers say it amounts to a 'land grab' and should be scrapped.

People Before Profit TD, Richard Boyd Barrett, says its "a corporate heist''.

''It's absolutely outrageous that what is supposed to be a forestry company for the public, owned by the public is facilitating profiteering and a profit grab by international investment funds and that has to be absolutely shelved. For the government to say it has nothing to do with us, it's unacceptable, this deal needs to be abandoned.''
