Public infrastructure in the North-West has been described as 'extremely poor' in the Dáil this week.
Leitrim TD Martin Kenny was speaking during a debate about the Critical Infrastructure Bill.
Over-reliance on a small number of water treatment plants as well as overcrowding at Sligo University Hospital were among some of the issues raised.
The Sinn Féin politician says the south Leitrim water scheme provides water for more than two thirds of the population of the county, and is currently operating at more than 100 per cent capacity.
