CSO figures highlight leading causes of death in the Shannonside Region

Nationally 8,149 deaths were registered in quarter 4 of 2022.

Diseases of the circulatory system were the leading cause of death in the Shannonside region at the end of last year.

Over 300 deaths were registered in the region at the end of 2022 according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office

The latest release from the CSO breaks down the main causes of death for quarter 4 of last year. A total of 305 deaths were registered in the Shannonside region during this period, 158 in Roscommon, 74 in Leitrim, and 73 in Longford.

According to the CSO, the leading cause of death across Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon was diseases of the circulatory system, which includes Heart Disease

87 deaths in the region were attributed to these. This is followed by Malignant Neoplasms, which are cancers, with 82 deaths listed and Respiratory diseases at 44.

5 deaths in the region were attributed to Alzheimer's and 14 to Dementia.

There were also 4 registered deaths of infants in the region in the last 3 months of 2022.

Nationally 8,149 deaths were registered in quarter 4 with 4,220 of those male and 3,929 female
