The details emerged at a sitting of the coroner's court in Carrick-on-Shannon

A passenger in one of the cars was Anne Hutchinson, with an address of 4988 Elgin Cir, Syracuse, New York. She was pronounced dead.

Criminal proceedings are under way into a crash in Carrick-on-Shannon in which an American woman died.

The incident happened nearly two years ago on the outskirts of the town.

This case relates to a two-vehicle crash on the R280 at Lisnabrack, Carrick-on-Shannon, shortly before 6 o’clock in the evening on September 21st, 2023.

A passenger in one of the cars was Anne Hutchinson, with an address of 4988 Elgin Cir, Syracuse, New York.

The 54-year-old was pronounced dead a short time later.

Her inquest was due to take place today.

Inspector Gerry Curley, from Carrick-on-Shannon Garda Station, told the coroner’s court in Carrick the incident was investigated by gardai.

He said criminal proceedings are initiated but have not yet concluded.

He asked for the inquest to be adjourned until the criminal proceedings are finished – which coroner Fergal Kelly granted.

Coroner Kelly said the medical cause of Anne’s death was multiple injuries related to trauma due to a road traffic collision.
