Councillor opposes plans to increase parking fee in Longford town

The generated additional funds would go towards the renovation of local footpaths, which have been a 'serious' concern for the elderly and mothers with prams, according to councillor Peggy Nolan.

The proposed increase of parking fees in Longford Town shows 'how out-of-touch some councillors are.'
That's the view of Independent councillor Mark Casey, who is strongly opposing the hike.

A Longford County Council meeting held yesterday discussed the increase of the fee from €1 to €1.50 an hour in the town.
The generated additional funds would go towards the renovation of local footpaths, which have been a 'serious' concern for the elderly and mothers with prams, according to councillor Peggy Nolan.
But councillor Mark Casey says the increased fee will deter people from shopping in Longford Town:

While Fine Gael councillor Peggy Nolan is for the motion.
She believes the decision is being taken for 'the common good':
