Councillor John Naughten has raised the issue for the construction of covered bus shelters in Athlone

A Roscommon councillor is calling for the construction of covered bus shelters at two locations outside of Athlone town.

Councillor John Naughten raised the issue during a recent meeting of the Roscommon County Council's Athlone Municipal District.

The Fine Gael councillor has urged the council to allocate funds for the construction of shelters at Monksland and Bealnamullia.

He says the infrastructure is important for commuters and members of the public waiting for a bus in wet or severe weather.
