Council meeting hears how Leitrim stroke victim waited over an hour for ambulance

The Carrick-on-Shannon ambulance which had been dispatched during this instance had been on the way from Mullingar.

A 52-year-old Drumshanbo resident had to wait an hour and twenty minutes for an ambulance to arrive after having suffered from a stroke.

Councillor Brendan Barry raised the issue at Monday's Ballinamore MD meeting, calling for the HSE to provide more ambulances to the area.

He says local crews are constantly being pulled away from their base to assist patients in other parts of the country.
