The Covid-19 outbreak may result in a good marketing opportunity for the largely vacant former MBNA premises in Carrick-on-Shannon.
That's according to local councillor Finola Armstrong Maguire who says social distancing measures make the massive office space available in the county town a more attractive opportunity than ever before.
The Fine Gael councillor was told the council are in regular contact with the owners who are actively marketing the space and who see a similar opportunity presenting itself as a result of the pandemic.
Up to 1,100 workers were accommodated at the Carrick-on-Shannon offices during peak employment at MBNA, and there's only a tenth of that still on site.
Councillor Armstrong Maguire says schools may be needing extra space in a couple of months but every effort should be made first to find a new company for the premises.
