Council claim controversial Longford road works will finish within weeks

Doubts have been expressed that the works will be completed within the council's timeline.

Controversial long-term road works on the Battery Road in Longford town will be complete within weeks according to the Local Authority.

In a statement to Shannonside FM, Longford County Council confirmed that the works, now ongoing for two years, will finish in 'the next few weeks.'

The project has seen the full reconstruction of the roadway from Church Street in the town to the N4 Axis Centre at the Red Cow Roundabout.

The works include the creation of dedicated cycle paths, new footpaths, the undergrounding of electricity and phone lines and the upgrade of public lighting.

The construction has impacted on traffic accessing the town with traffic light junctions operating on the route over the last two years.

The disruption has been criticised by local representatives, businesses, and members of the public.

Local Councillor Peggy Nolan lives along the route and believes the new streetscape will greatly benefit the town:
