Long term road, pedestrian and cycle works on one of Longford Town's main approach roads are now complete.
The Battery road works have been the source significant complaints from local residents, businesses and representatives over the last two years due to traffic delays.
The project has seen the full reconstruction of the roadway from Church Street in the town to the N4 Axis Centre at the Red Cow Roundabout.
The works include the creation of dedicated cycle paths, new footpaths, the under-grounding of electricity and phone lines and the upgrade of public lighting.
The mini roundabout on the Battery Road and Lisbrack roads has also now been replaced with a traffic light junction.
The lights were turned on today for the first time, with the system set to maintain the green light on the Battery Road until cars approach the Lisbrack exit.
The project will be officially opened on the 17th of June by Minister of State at the Department of Transport Sean Canney.
