Construction on a long awaited new 50 bed unit at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe will commence later this week.
That's according to local Independent TD Denis Naughten, who says the 15 million euro project will be built with future expansion possibilities in mind.
The project will include a 4,000 square metre building with a 50-bed unit and a link corridor incorporating lift and storage area.

It's understood the unit will become operational by the middle of 2023 with primary construction beginning this week.
