Conservative campaigner Maria Steen has received the support of three Leitrim councillors.
Ms Steen was one of thirteen prospective candidates who spoke to members at Áras an Chontae on Wednesday.
Councillors were given until 5pm to propose a candidate for nomination.
Leitrim County Council have confirmed that two Fianna Fáil Cllrs, Mary Bohan and Justin Warnock have proposed Ms Steen.
Fianna Fáil Cllrs were previously encouraged to support the party's candidate, Jim Gavin.
Dromod-based Independent Cllr Irene Guckian Rabbitte has also proposed the barrister.
Council members will now reconvene next Monday, September 22nd to consider Ms Steen for nomination.
