A compromise has been agreed with the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise over guidelines relating to funeral removals.
Bishop Paul Connell previously issued a letter to funeral directors in south Leitrim which said reposing of remains in churches would not be permitted in any church belonging to a Catholic parish in the diocese from 9 February.
However, in recent days, following a meeting with the Bishop with a local delegation, it was agreed that an extended removal can take place in a church with the coffin closed.
Local Cllr Cormac Flynn was one of those who attened the meeting.
