A centre in county Westmeath for people with disabilities has received a hugely positive report from the health watchdog. An unannounced inspection of Candoris was carried out in August, the details of which have been published today. The centre can accommodate five residents both male and female over the age of 18 with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, acquired brain injury or complex medical needs. On the day, all five residents told inspectors they were "happy" living there; one described life at the centre as "brilliant." Staff were described as respectful, caring and attentive.
HIQA's review noted robust governance and management: the centre is appropriately resourced, leadership is stable, staff recruitment and training meet requirements. Staffing rosters never fell below safe minimums, and family feedback was uniformly positive. In summary, the inspection concluded that Candoris delivers high-quality, person-centred care in a safe and supportive environment.
